Title:
HOW TO:
Move CARCare to a New PC
Background:
If you have been using CARCare on one PC and need to move it to a new PC,
you will need to install CARCare on your new PC and then move your prior
database to your new PC. This will enable you to continue using your prior data.
Follow the steps below.
On your CURRENT PC:
-
Make certain that you have the latest version of CARCare
software on your current PC, and update it if necessary
Start CARCare and use the Help | About... menu option to check for
build number 91. If you have an earlier (lower) build number, go to
the Download page for additional instructions on updating your CARCare
software. After updating your software re-boot your PC.
-
Start CARCare for Windows
-
If you also use the Mobile Edition, run a sync now and
ensure the sync runs without any errors.
-
Note the database filename and path in the title bar of main window
-
Click Help | About... and jot down your registration key
-
Close CARCare
-
Copy your database file from your old PC to removable
media (e.g.
CD-R/RW, Thumbdrive, Zip Disk, etc.)
On your
NEW PC:
-
Download and install CARCare
for Windows from this CARCare Website onto your new PC using the default settings
-
If your new PC is running
Windows Vista or Windows 7:
Right-click your CARCare icon, choose Properties,
click the Compatibility tab, check the box labeled "Run this program
as an administrator", and click OK. For more information on this,
-
Copy your
database file (e.g. CARCare.db) from your removable media , to the "C:\Program
Files\CARCare" folder on your NEW PC
-
Open CARCare for Windows
-
Enter your Name and Registration key
When you start CARCare for Windows on your new PC, you should see your prior
database. If your database name was something other than "CARCare.db",
you will need to use the File | Database | Open... menu function to open the
database.
