Title: I Cannot Find My Database File

Overview:
When running CARCare build #91 (or earlier) on Windows® Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8, as a default the Windows operating system will actually store your database in a "VirtualStore" folder, completely different from the normal C:\Program Files\CARCare folder where you would you expect it to be stored.  This is normal Windows behavior.

In order to view and access this path you will need to use Windows Explorer to navigate to the "C:\Program Files\CARCare" folder, and then click the "Compatibility Files" button in the upper portion of the Explorer window. Y ou will then see the VirtualStore folder path where your database file is actually stored, which will resemble the path below:

  • C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\CARCare

You can copy your database file from the VirtualStore folder (noted above), and place it into the new  "C:\Users\Public\CARCare" folder.  This is the new default folder for all versions of Windows.

CARCare Build #92 or later:
As of CARCare build #92, the default path for your database file is C:\Users\Public\CARCare.  If you had been using build #91 (or earlier), you can close CARCare and copy your database file from the VirtualStore folder (noted above), and place it into the C:\Users\Public\CARCare folder.  Once you do this, start CARCare and use the File | Database | Open... to redirect CARCare to the new database folder.
